Qualitative Survey
In early 2017, Central Health partnered with Travis County and Del Valle Independent School District to conduct a survey, assessing the health care needs of the community. About 870 students and parents across the district, which spans from Creedmoor to Hornsby Bend, provided feedback between April 4 – June 1, 2017.
Tour and Community Meeting
In June 2017, the Central Health Board of Managers participated in a tour, visiting the following areas in Eastern Travis County:
- CommUnityCare Walk-In Clinic on William Cannon
- Integral Care Dove Springs Care Facility
- UT School of Nursing Children’s Wellness Center
- Creedmoor Elementary School
The tour concluded with a community meeting in the cafeteria of the Del Valle Independent School District Opportunity Center. There, Central Health held a facilitated conversation on the needs of the residents of Eastern Travis County.
Focus Groups
In Oct. 2017, Central Health conducted three focus groups regarding access to health care in Eastern Travis County and possible locations for future health care solutions—specifically in the areas within the Del Valle Independent School District: Hornsby Bend, Austin’s Colony, Del Valle, Elroy, Garfield, and Creedmoor. Attendees included residents, potential patients, Del Valle Independent School District representatives, and community advocates.
Community Conversations
In 2018, Central Health launched a series of community dialogues—under the brand of “Community Conversations” to inform and obtain feedback from community members.
On Monday, May 14, 2018, Central Health hosted a Community Conversation focused on expanding health care services in Eastern Travis County. Forty-three individuals were in attendance. The program included a review of our recent demographic report by JP Eichmiller, and a comprehensive overview of all Eastern Travis County projects by Larry Wallace. Following the presentations, we hosted a panel discussion, which included questions from the audience, featuring Larry Wallace and the following partners:
- Sherri Fleming – County Executive, Travis County Health & Human Services
- Jaeson Fournier – CEO, CommUnityCare Health Centers
- Hugh Simmons – Dir. of Practice Management, Integral Care
- Stephanie Hayden – Director, Austin Public Health
- Dr. Stephanie Morgan – Professor of Clinical Nursing, UT School of Nursing
- Michelle Meaux – Regional Coordination Mgr., Capital Metro
Advisory Committees
To ensure the community has a seat at the table when it comes to planning health service expansion in their neighborhoods, Central Health formed advisory committees in early 2018. Members represent community partners, advocates, neighborhood associations, school districts, faith-based organizations, and elected officials. View the members of each advisory committee below.
