U.S. News & World Report ranked University Medical Center Brackenridge second this week among all 32 acute care hospitals for adults in the greater Austin metro area.
UMCB, owned by Central Health, is leased and operated by Seton Healthcare Family.
Both Central Health and Seton have worked together for many years to upgrade and enhance the levels of care available there. These investments, particularly for the trauma center, culminated in the hospital’s certification in 2009 as the only adult Level One Trauma Center for an 11-county region which includes Austin.
This Level One status, the highest possible, illustrates the great strides that have been made in recent years by Central Health and Seton to bring the best possible trauma care to all residents of Central Texas.
“The hospital rankings,” said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow, “are like a GPS-type aid to help steer patients to hospitals with strong skills in the procedures and medical conditions that present the biggest challenges. All of these hospitals are the kinds of medical centers that should be on your list when you need the best care,” said Comarow. “They are where other hospitals send toughest cases.”
UMCB is ranked 21st from among all 607 hospitals in Texas. It was High-Ranking for four specialties: ear, nose & throat; neurology & neurosurgery; nephrology and orthopedics.
U.S. News & World Report’s annual hospital ranking is highly regarded by both healthcare professionals and academic researchers. This is the ranking’s 23rd year. The complete 2012-2013 national ranking will be available in the upcoming U.S. News Best Hospitals Guidebook, available in August.
