The Central Health Board of Managers approved a contract Wednesday with Bartlett Cocke General Contractors to provide Construction Management at Risk (CM@R) services for the new Southeast Health & Wellness Center.
The $659,350 contract covers Phases 1 and 2 of the construction services to ensure Southeast Travis County’s new flagship facility opens as planned next fall. The contract specifies Bartlett Cocke will develop a two-phase schedule in cooperation with Central Health and the project’s architectural and engineering firm O’Connell Robertson, award subcontractor bids, and manage construction. The entire construction budget for the project is approximately $11.7 million.
“Bartlett Cocke made an extra effort to provide an extremely high level of detail and assurances in their proposal. Their proposal, including their previous work and health care experience, led us to conclude they are the best firm to take on this extremely important project. We’re confident the Southeast Health & Wellness Center will be everything the community has told us they want and need,” Central Health Project Manager Bob Kallstrom said.
Initially, the dental clinic will open in September of 2014. The remainder of Phase 1 projects, including primary care, specialty care, and mental health clinics, as well as community meeting space, will be completed by Oct. 1, 2014. Phase 2 projects, including three additional primary care clinic pods, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, navigation and eligibility services, space for Women Infants & Children (WIC), additional community use space, facility administration offices, and facilities and building support functions, will be ready by Oct. 1 of 2015.
The Southeast Health & Wellness Center is being designed and developed through an intensive community engagement process, with additional planning meetings scheduled for December. The new health center will be located at 2901 Montopolis Drive, previously home to the Veterans Administration Austin Outpatient Clinic. The goal of the center is to provide a facility where residents can obtain a full spectrum of health related services, including medical care, behavioral health services, nutrition and wellness assistance, and more. Central Health purchased the property in 2011. For more information, visit centralhealth.net/se_health_wellness_center.html.
