Community health centers, like our own CommUnityCare, serve more than 25 million Americans at more than 9,000 delivery sites nationwide, and one in every fifteen people living in the United States depends on a community health center’s services for high quality, cost effective, and accessible care. To celebrate the invaluable role they play in our communities, each year we celebrate National Health Center Week during August.
Joining in on the celebration, Central Health held a Summer Luau at the Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center on Aug. 18 to spotlight our health center’s valuable resources and services
This family-friendly event was free for the public, and health care teams were on hand to offer free blood pressure, glucose, and vision screenings for both adults and children. Numerous local partner organizations handed out useful information on a wide-range of programs and resources. Graduates of the SEHWC healthy cooking class prepared healthy food samples. Kids were kept busy with games, prizes, face painting, balloon animals, snow cones, and more.
To close out the celebration, Central Health Enterprise Chief Administrative Officer Larry Wallace, CommUnityCare’s CEO Jaeson Fournier, Congressman Lloyd Doggett, and Austin City Council Member Pio Renteria offered words of thanks and encouragement to the team members, and pledged their dedication to the community that we all serve.
