Former CEO of Regenstrief to chair new Department of Population Health at Dell Medical School

Beginning in January, William Tierney will chair the newly formed Department of Population Health at the Dell Medical School. Tierney previously served as the CEO and president of the Regenstrief Institute, an Indiana-based nonprofit seeking to improve public health in the Indianapolis area, and will now head efforts to research epidemiology, biostatistics and other preventative health programs to improve Travis County public health services.
Texas holds off on cuts in Medicaid program

On Wednesday morning, lawyers for the Health and Human Services Commission withdrew plans for deep cuts to Medicaid before facing a legal challenge in Travis County District Court. Lawyers, however, plan to hold public hearings to reconsider $50 million in cuts over the next two years.
UT study: Fitness program for middle schoolers failed to curb obesity

Texas Fitness Now, a $37 million physical education program intended to reduce obesity among middle schoolers, failed to achieve its goal, but did increase fitness, according to a study by the University of Texas.
