Sobriety center plans advance through the county

Travis County Commissioners have taken another big step toward the creation of a sobriety center that would serve as an alternative to jail for the region’s dangerously intoxicated. The court has voted to request the cost estimate of converting a building for their needs and to explore possible revenue streams.

The Obama administration has announced that it plans major changes to HealthCare.gov this year to make it easier for shoppers to find health insurance plans that include their doctors and to predict their near-future health care costs.
Typical Austin homeowner to see total tax bill increase of $242

The increase in the overall tax bill for the owner of a median-valued home in Austin will be $242. However, Travis County, Central Health, Austin, and Austin Community College all increased their senior and disabled homestead exemptions this year to shave anywhere from an extra $5,000 to $10,000 off home values.
