(Austin) – The Central Health Board of Mangers appointed Larry Wallace, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Central Health, to serve as interim President and Chief Executive Officer when Patricia Young Brown retires from public service at the end of the year.

Brown announced in October her departure from Central Health effective Dec. 31, 2016. Young Brown was hired in 2005 and is the first and only president and CEO in Central Health’s 12-year history. The Board of Managers recently hired executive recruitment firm B.E. Smith to lead the search for a new, permanent president and CEO.

Wallace is a proven health care leader with more than 30 years’ experience in developing and leading integrated health care operations. Since joining Central Health in late 2005, Larry has overseen finance, human resources, health information technology, eligibility services, and facilities. He’s also spearheaded important collaborations with community partners, local safety net providers, community leaders, and constituents to improve access to health care for low-income Travis County residents. Wallace is also the Executive Director of the Community Care Collaborative.

Wallace holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Dallas Baptist University and an MBA from Amberton University in Dallas. While serving in the United States Army, Larry attended the United States Academy of Health Sciences and received certifications as an eye, ear, nose, and throat specialist. Larry is also a member of the Medical Group Management Association and the American College of Health Care Executives.
