Central Health, Central Texas Food Bank Team Up to Offer Summer Meals

June 7, 2022

Program offers free lunches to families through Aug. 5

(Austin) — Central Health, Central Health-affiliated CommUnityCare Health Centers and Sendero Health Plans, and the Central Texas Food Bank are partnering once again to offer free lunchtime meals for Travis County children up to 18 years old and their families.

Area kids and their families can visit the Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center, 2901 Montopolis Drive, Austin, Texas, 78741, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday to collect their free summer meals. Adults must be accompanied by their children to receive a meal. Masks are required onsite. The program ends Aug. 5.

“School lunches are a vital part of proper nutrition for Travis County students, and this program fills an important gap once school is out,” said Mike Geeslin, President & CEO of Central Health. “This program offers a way to ensure kids are getting the food they need.”

There’s no enrollment or cost required, and families can enjoy food, fun and friendship daily. On Fridays, families will be given a care package of snacks for the weekend.

The program began in 2015 but was suspended in 2020 because of COVID-19. Last year, families were able to pick up their food through drive-through services. This year marks the first in-person summer meal program since 2019, when more than 3,500 meals were served.

For more information, call (512) 978-9807. Free parking is available behind the center.
