(Austin) – Central Health is accepting applications for the 2020 Class of Community Health Champions, which brings together diverse community members to improve access to and quality of health care in Travis County.
During the five-month program, 25 chosen applicants will gain a deeper understanding of health care issues and disparities in the local community, including the latest impacts of COVID-19 on communities of color and communities with low income. They will also learn how Central Health partners with health organizations, nonprofits, and hospitals at 183 locations across the county to address health inequities.
Applicants do not have to come from a public health background, but should have an interest in current health care topics and in growing as a leader and ambassador. Those accepted into the program must complete a Health Equity Training course and attend at least four of the five monthly workshops to receive a certificate of completion. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Central Health will host this year’s program virtually and will admit half the number of applicants as previous years to ensure meaningful interaction and connection among classmates.
Upon completion of the program, 2020 Champions will join a close-knit group of over 150 Community Health Champions Alumni who are committed to improving the long-term health of residents across the county.
Travis County residents interested in the program can visit centralhealth.net for more information. The online application closes June 21, 2020.
