Nephrology
Take charge of your kidney health
Nephrology is the branch of medicine that deals with the study, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney diseases. It’s all about taking care of your kidneys, which have many important functions like cleaning waste and fluid from your blood, helping make healthy red blood cells, controlling your blood pressure, and keeping your bones strong. Nephrologists, or kidney specialists, manage conditions such as chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, kidney stones, hypertension related to kidney disease, and electrolyte imbalances. They also oversee dialysis treatments and kidney transplants. If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, your doctor may send you to a nephrologist. At Central Health, our nephrology team is here to help.
We help with a wide range of treatment options
Central Health’s nephrology team can help you with a wide range of treatments for all kids of kidney-related diagnoses, including:
- Consultations: Meet with a kidney specialist at our office to review your medical history and risk factors for kidney disease. We’ll create a personalized kidney care plan to improve your kidney health.
- Clinical care: During your visit, we might check your blood pressure, take blood samples, and talk about your kidney health. We will also discuss lifestyle changes to help you stay healthy and keep your kidneys working well.
- Medicines and treatments: We can prescribe medications to slow down chronic kidney disease. Ask your doctor about these options during your visit.
- Equipment: We provide tools like blood sugar meters and blood pressure monitors so you can check your health at home.
- Labs and testing: Part of your kidney check-up includes lab tests and sometimes a kidney ultrasound. These tests help us understand your kidney function, the stage of kidney disease, and if there are any structural problems with your kidneys.
- Kidney biopsies: Sometimes, we need to do a kidney biopsy to understand the cause of kidney disease. This same-day procedure, done by a radiologist, involves taking a small sample of your kidney to look at under a microscope. This helps us decide the best treatments for you.
- Multi-disciplinary care model: At Central Health, we believe your kidney health is part of your overall health. Our team includes nutritionists, pharmacists, and community health workers to help you understand kidney disease and how diet, medications, and lifestyle changes can improve your health.
- Referrals: If you need special treatments like dialysis or other kidney-related procedures, we’ll help you find the right place to go.
